Cleveland Group opens new Doncaster depot as national expansion continues
Cleveland Group has continued its rapid national expansion with the opening of a new Cleveland-operated depot in Doncaster, strengthening its ability to serve customers across South Yorkshire and the wider Yorkshire region.
The new depot is the latest addition to Cleveland’s growing UK network, following the opening of a new 5-acre depot in Newport, South Wales, in 2025. The Doncaster site builds on Cleveland Group’s existing Cleveland-operated locations in Newport, Middlesbrough, Ashby de la Zouch and Cambuslang, as the business continues to invest in its infrastructure, people and operational capabilities.
Based in Stockton-on-Tees, Cleveland Group comprises Cleveland Containers, Cleveland Modular and Cleveland Hire, providing customers nationwide with shipping containers, modular buildings, site accommodation, and bespoke conversion solutions.
Following LDC’s initial investment in 2022, the business has delivered strong year-on-year growth and more than doubled its headcount, from 45 to 118.
The decision to open in Doncaster follows analysis of Cleveland’s existing customer base and delivery activity, with the area identified as a key location within the Group’s growing national footprint.
Doncaster was a natural choice for Cleveland. We’ve seen significant demand from customers across the region, so having our own depot here strengthens our national network and puts us closer to the customers we serve. It’s another step forward for the business and an investment in delivering an even better customer experience.
Andrew Thompson, Chief Executive Officer at Cleveland Group
The new depot will provide additional capacity across Cleveland’s divisions, with a particular focus on supporting the construction and infrastructure sectors across Yorkshire. The site will predominantly provide site accommodation and modular buildings, supporting customers ranging from construction companies and housebuilders to schools, hospitals and emergency services.
With stock already available at the Doncaster site, Cleveland can respond quickly to customer requirements while reducing reliance on third-party and supporting depots. Having greater control over the preparation, inspection and turnaround of units will also help the business maintain its own standards and deliver a consistent customer experience.
The additional space will be particularly valuable for Cleveland Modular, enabling larger projects to be planned and prepared on site. With the Group supporting major national customers on modular projects involving hundreds of bays, the Doncaster depot provides the space to lay out and prepare units efficiently, helping ensure a high-quality finish before they reach site.
Six roles have already been recruited locally to support the new Doncaster location, with further opportunities expected as the depot grows. The site will be led by newly appointed Depot Manager Darren Dunnill, who has overseen its development and will be responsible for driving continued improvement.
Investment in our infrastructure goes hand in hand with investment in our people. As we open new depots and expand the business, we’re creating opportunities for people to come into Cleveland, develop their skills and progress through the business. We want to give people with the right attitude and commitment the opportunity to build a long-term career with us.
Laura Moore, Group Operations Director at Cleveland Group
I’ve really enjoyed the challenge of taking a completely blank site and working out how we can make it the best depot it can be. The goal for me is to create an operation that truly delivers for our customers, ensuring the highest standards of quality, efficiency and service.
Darren Dunnill, Depot Manager at Cleveland Group
The Doncaster opening marks another significant milestone in Cleveland Group’s growth since its formation in 2022. Continued investment in fleet, infrastructure, people and training has enabled the Group to expand its services, while its network of Cleveland-operated depots gives the business greater control over its operations and brings it closer to customers.
The new depot provides additional capacity for new and existing customers, supports larger national projects and creates further opportunities for employee development, while providing a strong platform for Cleveland’s next phase of growth. As the Group continues to expand, its focus remains on building a truly national business while maintaining the quality of service and customer experience at the heart of Cleveland.
