Depot Manager

Closing date: 11/07/2025

Location: Middlesbrough

The Depot Manager will have direct reporting line to the Head of Operations, they will be responsible for working alongside the Operations Team to ensure the safe operation and financial success of the depot using strong leadership skills to create a high performing team and a culture which reflects the Company values.


Safety

  • Responsible for creating a safety culture of high standards and safety focussed behaviours within the depot
  • Act as a role model for safe behaviour and ‘Lead by example’ at all times
  • Set clear standards and expectations regarding safety and communicate them clearly
  • Positively reinforce safe standards and behaviours, seeking out opportunities to provide recognition to those who demonstrate these
  • Encourage use of the company reporting system for hazards
  • Spend time in both the yard and the office to understand safety challenges and to support the team in overcoming these safely
  • Consistently challenge unsafe behaviours
  • Use Safety Meetings, Tool Box Talks and Safety Bulletins as additional communication forums to discuss the importance of safety with the teams and to encourage a learning culture of continuous improvement
  • Be able to manage and update a full IMS system and ensure all compliance checks and systems are in date and used

Financial Performance

  • Responsible for supporting the overall success and financial performance of the depot
  • Use commercial awareness to deliver profitable growth
  • Meet or exceed P&L budget
  • Demonstrate strong cost control mindset, balancing need to achieve short term budgets with long terms needs of the business
  • Work with the wider team to ensure the depot fore fills asset management KPIs / fleet is rotated, and that repairs and maintenance tasks are completed in a timely manner
  • Work with Credit Control/Purchase Ledger to resolve customer invoice queries
  • Complete purchasing processes for the depot to include stock for the Yard, office supplies and third party purchase orders in a timely manner
  • Responsible for supporting the with depot invoicing, including sales invoices, relocations, damages and rebills when required

Leadership

  • Responsible for creating a culture within the depot which fits with the Company values, acting as a role model to reinforce these
  • Provide development, training and coaching to support your direct reports to improve and to drive strong performance
  • Hold regular performance reviews/discussions with all direct reports to provide feedback on their individual performance
  • Empower direct reports and provide support for them to make decisions, take ownership for their roles, challenge current practices and seek improvements, creating an environment of continuous improvement
  • Motivate, praise and positively reinforce the right behaviours and good performance across the entire depot
  • Communicate effectively ensuring that all direct reports have all of the information required for them to do their jobs and to understand how their role links to the goals of the business

Customer Service

  • Help to create a culture of high customer service where the depot exceeds the expectations of the customer
  • Ensure that the depot is responsive to customer feedback and makes changes, where required to drive improvement
  • Proactively seek improvements to the customer experience
  • Uses business acumen skills to make decisions regarding customers which benefit the business as a whole
  • Work with the entire depot team to use Customer Satisfaction Surveys to proactively identify and resolve weaknesses in product or service quality

Competencies and Qualifications

  • Be passionate about providing the best customer service
  • Strong leadership skills and people management experience are essential
  • Previous experience in a role with P&L responsibility would be beneficial
  • Experience in the portable accommodation or hire industries would be beneficial but not essential
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Highly motivated with the ability and desire to make a difference
  • Positive and enthusiastic attitude
  • Honest and open with customers and colleagues at all times
  • Computer literate with good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook
  • Must be prepared to travel and work occasional weekends
  • Full clean driving licence
